Welcome
Welcome to your Classic Butterfly Welcome Pack!
Thank you so much for joining me for one of the most iconic and beautiful shapes on the pole.
This series is for high beginner to intermediate pole dancers, with a focus on proper technique, strength, and controlled, graceful movement.
Before You Begin:
🦋 Make sure you warm up before each session and cool down afterward — these are not full pole sessions.
🦋 You’ll get the most out of this lesson pack by starting at Lesson 1 — your Butterfly Prep.
🦋 Follow the lessons in order; however, you do not need to have your full Classic Butterfly to work on the Leg Hook Butterfly.
🦋 Because we are inverted for much of this pack, I strongly recommend placing a crash mat under your pole for safety.
All lessons follow my method – learn the move, make it strong and then, make it graceful.
Thank you so much — if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at hello@spinwithsophia.com
With grace, Sophia 💖
Lesson 1
Butterfly Prep
This lesson focuses on preparing your body for Classic Butterfly.
You’ll work through the key elements needed before attempting the full shape, including:
Shoulder and hip positioning
Muscle engagement
Correct grip points and how to use them
This prep lesson is essential, even if you’ve attempted Butterfly before. It will help you build strength, control, and confidence so the shape feels more stable and intentional as you progress.
Take your time with this lesson and repeat it often — this is the foundation for everything that follows.
If you get stuck on anything, you’re very welcome to leave a comment or email me for support: hello@spinwithsophia.com
Lesson 2
Classic Butterfly
Getting Your Butterfly
After completing the prep work, you’ll learn how to take the leg off the pole and fully commit to the Classic Butterfly position with control.
The emphasis in this lesson is on:
Trusting your prep and positioning
Understanding where your support comes from
Completing the Classic Butterfly shape safely and confidently
Take your time with this lesson and revisit it as needed before progressing.
Finesse Your Butterfly
This lesson focuses on making your Butterfly beautiful once the shape feels secure.
You’ll work on:
The tips and techniques that finesse your Butterfly shape
Making your Butterfly graceful
It’s very important not to worry about finesse until your Butterfly feels strong, safe, and secure.
This lesson is about polish, not pushing strength or flexibility. Small adjustments here make a significant difference to how your Butterfly looks and feels.
Lesson 3
Leg Hook Butterfly
Leg Hook Butterfly from Viva / Jasmine
Welcome to your first lesson for Leg Hook Butterfly.
This lesson focuses on introducing the Leg Hook Butterfly – you do not need to have your full Classic Butterfly to work on this variation, you just need to be working on your Classic Butterfly Prep.
You’ll work on:
Setting up the leg hook correctly
Maintaining strong grip
Transitioning into the shape from your Viva/Jasmine with control
Leg Hook Butterfly from Outside Leg Hang
This lesson focuses on entering your Leg Hook Butterfly from an Outside Leg Hang.
You’ll work on:
Setting up your Butterfly cleanly from your OLH
Maintaining strong grip as you transition
Moving with your spin to create flow
If you haven’t done a drop-down entry into your Outside Leg Hang from a climb before, this is covered in the lesson.
If you get stuck on anything, you’re very welcome to leave a comment or email me for support: hello@spinwithsophia.com
Cup Grip Butterfly
This lesson focuses on introducing the Cup Grip Butterfly within the Leg Hook Butterfly module.
You’ll work on:
Understanding and setting up the cup grip correctly
How to maintain strong grip and shoulder positioning through your transition
This variation allows you to explore a different grip option while still prioritising strength in the shape.
Lesson 4
Your Butterfly Combos
Leg Hook Butterfly Combo
As always, we’ll first learn the sequence and make it strong and controlled. From there, we’ll finesse the movement, adding layers of grace and flow to make it beautiful.
This lesson brings together strength, technique, and fluidity in a way that feels beautiful to dance.
Moves included in this combo:
Step Around
Climb

Viva / Jasmine
Leg Hook Butterfly
Genie and Genie Extension / Split
Side Seat
Layout
Classic Butterfly Combo
This combo is great for building strength in your Classic Butterfly while reinforcing everything you’ve learned so far.
As always, we’ll follow the same methodology — learn the sequence first, make it strong and controlled, and then add grace and finesse to bring beauty to the combo.
Moves included in this combo:
Angel Spin
Straddle Invert – options given for ankle grab / crucifix invert (you can also climb and drop down)
Classic Butterfly
Flatline
Inside Leg Hang (Variation)
Tornado
Jamilla / Apprentice
Pirouette
Low Carousel Spin
This combo is meant to challenge you. You may not get it straight away — and that’s exactly the point! Working with this sequence will help you build so much strength – and confidence – over time as you continue to practise it.
If you get stuck on anything, you’re very welcome to leave a comment or email me for support: hello@spinwithsophia.com
